ABOUT THE POSITION
Canadian Stage is offering an exciting internship opportunity for Production Management and Technical Direction for Dream in High Park, one of Canada’s largest and longest running outdoor professional theatre events. Under the mentorship of Daniel Bennett, Director of Production and Facilities, and Brayden Crawford, the Technical Director, the Production Management and Technical Direction Intern will spend 10 weeks at Toronto's High Park Amphitheatre, gaining hands-on experience in an outdoor theatre context. This internship provides a unique chance to learn the intricacies of both roles while immersing yourself in the vibrant theatre community of Toronto.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Technical Direction team in the installation of an outdoor venue, including but not limited to power and electricity, lighting package and plot, rigging, scenery, and audio;
- Attend Tech Week;
- Materials orders and pickups;
- Call vendors to coordinate pickups and deliveries;
- Organizing the transfer of gear between the theatre and venues;
- CAD drafting for 2024’s Dream in High Park, Hamlet
- Maintain the rehearsal hall and coordinate needs with stage management;
- Be located in Toronto for the duration of the internship.
- The ideal candidate would have a valid G driver’s license and be able to drive a panel van and/or 20’ truck.
KEY AREAS OF LEARNING THROUGH OBSERVATION:
- Learning the budget and costs associated with Dream in High Park;
- Ensuring safety in an outdoor setting while working with large machinery;
- Rigging and stabilization of truss towers;
- Scheduling the installation of an outdoor performance venue and production;
- Manage IATSE crews, determining calls to business agent, organizing crew tiers, and learning to how to be a hands-off manager;
- Support designers by prioritizing and managing resources to deliver production design;
- Participate in costing process, sourcing of materials, and execution of the build;
- Ensuring scale and scope remain within resources;
- How to manage and prioritize the notes list with crew and Technical Direction team to ensure that everything is accomplished by opening night;
- Supporting design in an outdoor venue as related to weather and environmental factors; policies and procedures for working in outdoor theatre.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A love of theatrical production.
- An interest in Production Management and/or Technical Direction
- A solid foundation in technical theatre (lighting, sound, scenery, rigging)
- Enjoys being part of a team; a collaborator with a positive attitude
- Experience working on at least 5 productions
TOTAL TIME REQUIREMENT:
44 hrs per week for 10 weeks + 4% vacation pay. The work will include hours on the weekend and in the evening
